Recently, Sean brought home one of these patties. Sean, the kids and I go and visit occasionally, and among the numerous sweets we buy, the chocolate peppermint patties are an always. There’s a candy store in Rhinebeck, NY that is owned by a couple of well-loved and known actors (one who’s last name rhymes with dud), yet is so far from. I’ve talked about it numerous times around here that I’m not a chocolate person, but I could never pass by a peppermint patty. Never mind the fact that if I were to give into a chocolate candy (of sorts), this one would be the one and only. I would take my coke-bottle-farsighted-glasses and prop them on my face just so do my best to bring on the accent, and recite the lines of the commercial. My mom, dad, sister and I would be sitting at the dinner table, doing our best to recreate, in character, our favorite candy commercials, and I would own this peppermint patty one. “Whenever I bite into a York Peppermint Pah Patty….” One memory, in particular, that is always front and center in my mind is the one with the peppermint patty. When it comes to sweet desserts and growing up, I’ve got some doozie memories to share, as well as some epic disasters.
